HYBRIDY is an audio-video multimedia installation that aims to explore the symbiotic relationships between body and machine, digital and analog, nature and technique. It consists of a large circular video-dance projection algorithmically processed and synchronized with electronic music played through headphones with binaural spatialization and vibrotactile body feedback.
An immersive multimedia and multisensory experience that seeks the hybridization between human and extra-human elements, bringing into play a mechanism of reciprocal relationships typical of complex systems. In this process, the body becomes the element capable of enabling a symbiosis that draws inspiration from the mythological figures of the dryads, half-women and half-plants.
Similarly to the dryads who expand their bodies with fronds and roots, in HYBRIDY the human body controls algorithms inspired by the nature of fungi in order to enliven its own transfiguration and at the same time generating and directing the sounds of this fusion.
The hybridity thus becomes a pattern of digital content hybridized with body-nature “within which an individual can reconcile with complexity. A primitive and poetic artistic fecundity that, welcoming its transformation, constantly trains us to separate ourselves from unidirectional patterns, ideas and existences”. ('A Spiral of Hybridizations. From the Natural to the Technological,' S. Milan).
The project is realized with the support of MiC and SIAE, as part of the “Per Chi Crea” program and with contributions from the Regione Piemonte and the CRT Foundation.
